We’ve taken the plunge after another busy year and moved into bigger office premises - Heritage House, 12A Cleethorpe Road, Grimsby, N.E. Lincolnshire, just off the A 180, and loads of customer / course attendee parking that is lockable and totally secure. We have an on site training facility that can hold up to 20 persons in any training session, and full disability access and facilities to hand. The registered office postal address will remain as before, but the office phone contact number has now changed to 01472 470614 as from 30th July.

We will be publishing an updated list of courses and will also be publishing dates of IOSH courses for the remainder of 2013 very shortly.

Otherwise our first class service remains unchanged, and we seek further new clients to add to our ever growing list of satisfied clients.

Company acquisition - 1st July 2012.

Glyn Atkinson Safety Services are proud to announce the buyout of a health and safety company based in Market Deeping - Black & White (UK ) Ltd.

With this buyout now being complete, we are seeking new contracts further afield from N.E. Lincolnshire, with the ability to train nationwide on construction based safety passport training requirements including refreshers and management certified training.

More details will be published in the near future.

We also welcome Mr Tony Rose, another NVQ 5 qualified trainer and advisor onto the team here. Tony also has his own training arm - Passport Safety Training Ltd. with a dedicated training premises central to Grimsby, just off the main entry road (A180) into the town. Tony has vast overseas and national experience with well known international companies and has recently returned from training IOSH courses in Malaysia.

This acquisition and safety partnership will enable us to help all current and future clients with all of their safety training requirements and advisory services from one source, from reliable and trustworthy providers, well known and trusted in the industry.

We also have another local training facility to provide south bank based PASMA training, along with a north bank provision for driver training and forklift starter and refresher training for employees, using another alliance partner’s training premises in Hull - National Forklift Training Ltd.

Company expansion news !!

Exciting times ahead, as we are currently negotiating with another H&S consultancy company to take on their assets and client portfolio from June of this year.

We hope to announce soon in which geographical area we are going to be expanding, with the ability to provide safety training and consultancy in another set location, which will be in a central position to the area’s catchment area of food factories and local / regional businesses.

More success at the National GAU Auto-Care Conference

The company successfully exhibited for the second year earlier this month at the palatial setting at Celtic Manor Golf Club, Newport , South Wales.

Safety documentation systems and templates were shown to new clients and old clients were able to see newly created examples of safety training that is pertinent to the garages and motor factor members of the national group - GAU Auto Care.

News was handed out in regard to the new charging fees legislation that will run out by HSE Inspectors on a nationwide basis, concentrating on companies that may not be legally and safely compliant in their work methods and documentation.

Several companies took advantage of our Spring offer to take advance bookings for safety documentation, with a 30% deposit and 70% on completion.

We also took names for forthcoming IOSH Managing Safely courses, so that clients have qualified staff completing their site risk assessments.

The GAU endorsement will be an important part of our portfolio of clients for the rest of 2012 and beyond, as we build more relationships with their membership.

We have also been provisionally asked to provide a safety information session at next year’s Conference seminar after the trade fair, and we are delighted to provisionally accept this prestigious offer to speak to all those attending the seminar.

Additionally, the company have been in negotiations to provide safety legislation update articles to two of the motoring fraternity publications.

All in all, an excellent conference attendance for us, and once again we appear to be bucking the recession trend, by offering top class safety advice and documents, with superb pricing and full insurance back up for all of our work.

Outstanding uptake of IOSH course dates.

More places are now having to be made available due to work rotas from one of our larger commercial clients. This means that two more courses are being run up to the end of 2010.

- 22nd to 25th November
- 6th to 10th December
- 13th to 16th December.

UKALP - New Membership Approved!

New Association Brings Further Training Opportunities!

Within the next week, Glyn Atkinson Safety Services will be able to offer IOSH Managing Safely training for a local client base within 50 miles of the Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire, home base location.

We are currently discussing a partnership agreement with 2 third parties, firstly to provide the training in a legal form with the correct IOSH licence in place, and also with a local premier training venue that can also provide quality accommodation and course refreshments for course attendees.

One further training alliance is currently being discussed, based around the Peterborough area.

With all of these opportunities being presented, these are exciting times, and negotiations are also ongoing for more technical authoring work for new training courses in the near future.

More fines from machinery failures on guarding!

In the latest Safety and Health Practitioner, evidence is shown of fines given to firms failing to ensure that a safe system of work was in place.

Firm ignored advice by removing guards
A Cheshire precision engineering company has been prosecuted after it paid no attention to HSE enforcement notices, first issued in 2001, ordering it to replace safety guards on its machines.

David Norton, the HSE inspector who investigated the case and prosecuted it in court, told SHP that on a routine inspection  in May 2007 to its factory in Hyde, Greater Manchester, it was discovered that the guards on several milling machines, large table-sized machines used to shape metal, had been removed.

Inspector Norton said management at Crest Engineering had taken a “deliberate decision” to remove the guards on the milling machines. “Safety guards are there for a reason and, by not providing them, the company put the lives of its employees in danger,” he said.

The HSE first served the firm with an enforcement notice in 1999 for failing to have in place a safety switch on a machine. When inspectors visited the site again in 2001, they found safety guards missing on several machines, and so served eight enforcement notices.

On a visit by inspectors in 2002 to check on the firm, these notices appeared to have been complied with, but on the routine visit in May 2007, this was found not to be the case. Witnesses said that although the guards were initially provided following the visit in 2001, they were removed or put out of use after a short period.

Crest Engineering pleaded guilty at Trafford Magistrates’ Court on 23 June to breaching s2(1) of the HSWA 1974 by not ensuring the safety of its employees, and reg. 11(3) of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 by failing to provide and use suitable machine guarding. It was fined a total of £13,000 – £10,000 on the first charge and £3000 on the second – and ordered to pay full costs of £3003.

The firm said in mitigation it had since complied with notices and advice from the HSE. It pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.

The inspector concluded: “Factory work can be extremely dangerous and so it is vital that the risks are reduced to a minimum. We will not hesitate to prosecute anyone who persistently ignores the rules, and I hope this case will act as a warning to companies who do not take health and safety seriously.”
